Cassiopeia/Perseus Border Region

IC 1805, IC 1848, NGC 884, NGC 869

The border between the constellations Perseus und Cassipeia is a beautiful Autumn Milky Way area full of multi-colored stars and red emission nebulae. The two "double objects" dominate this region: The Double Cluster NGC 884 and NGC 869 in the lower part of the picture and the Double Nebulae IC 1805 and IC 1848 five degrees to the north. All these objects are located "nearby" in the Perseus arm of our galaxy.

Although extremely large, the Double Nebulae are very faint, for a good visual observation you will need a rich-field telescope. The Double Cluster however is a showpiece object that can even be seen with the unaided eye.
